Erskineville Rail Bridge
Project description:
Project description: Demolition of a 100 year old road bridge over a live six line rail corridor and replacement with a new link assembled from components fabricated off site. The new bridge was constructed while carrying out staged demolition of the old structure, with minimal impact on normal pedestrian, road and rail movements.
Complex Challenges:
Abergeldie managed the supply of steelwork and also modified the original design to maximise off-site prefabrication, enabling full span girders to be lifted into place in a single crane movement within one shift. All works were carried out during track possessions, requiring extensive planning and coordination with numerous stakeholders including RTA, Railcorp, emergency services, state buses, local councils, police and the community. Service relocations required coordination with AGL, Telstra, Optus, Sydney Water and Energy Australia.
