Ravensworth Underground Mine Ventilation Shafts No 4 and 5

Project description:

Design and construction of shafts No 4 and 5 for Ravensworth Underground Mine. Shaft 5 will have a finished diameter of 4m and will be 170m deep. Shaft 4 will have a finished diameter of 5.5m and will be extend to 230m deep once initial depth of 170m is reached. Abergeldie to supply and install composite liners to 170m for both shafts to provide hydrostatic seal with 20 year design life.

Site works include site establishment, survey and set out, construction of shaft collar, presink and drill slab, site clearing and excavation of ponds, construction of liner preparation area.

Complex Challenges:

Additional 60m depth of shaft 4 will be steel liner only and the diameter will step in as the steel liners will be drilled and installed after the composite liners are grouted in place. A gap is to be left between the composite and steel liners for mine access to the Pikes Gulley seam.
